In the month of December, Potoski is being recognized for his hard work by being chosen as the Marion Employee Spotlight of the month.
Potoski has worked over six years on the maintenance team of the Marion Parks and Recreation department. Prior to this job, he worked as an equipment sales representative.
Potoski’s work description includes a little bit of everything.
“There’s a lot, I mean everything from mowing, weed-eating, plumbing, electrical, construction, even janitorial work,” Potoski said. “At the Parks and Rec department we have to wear a lot of hats.”
Potoski said he most enjoys electrical work, weed-eating, and setting up the walkway of lights.
“I like fixing things, I like to do stuff with my hands, like yard work and being outside,” Potoski said.
Belinda Hussong, executive director of parks and recreation said Mike’s attention to detail, accountability and humor are some the qualities that make him such a valuable employee.
“He takes ownership of what he does and never says he can’t do something, if he doesn’t know how he’ll learn it,” Hussong said. “He will jump up to the plate and tell us if there’s a different way to do something that he thinks we should try, and a lot of the time he’s right.”
Hussong also said that Potoski stands out because he truly enjoys his job.
“I like employees who enjoy coming to work, taking pride in what they do, caring about our community,” Hussong said. “If employees will care about the community, it will show in their work, and that will make our park department better, and that’s really what we want to do.”
